3/3/13Has Spring Sprung?

3/03/13: Happy (Almost) Spring! At least, it sure feels like that here in Seattle! We've been having unusually warm weather- heck, it was 59 degrees today! Last weekend I even mowed my lawn- unheard of in grey Seattle in February, but there you have it. I wish I had specific music news to share, but I don't. Caring for my elderly parent and remodling my basement are the two prime time takers right now. I am listening to a lot of tunes while I hammer, saw and paint! Am feelling somewhat inspired by the guitar riff in "Don't Run Wild" by the Del Fuegos (anyone remember them?) But it is OK to have some music downtime- it's during these times that my subconscious works on song ideas that will pop up like new flowers later... Cheers, Deb:-)

2/11/13: Over-Wintering In Urban Folkerista-ville

2/11/13: Happy Valentine's Day (Almost)! Here in Urban Folkerista-ville, I am applying for summer music festivals, spending time with my elderly mom and sketching out some new song outlines. My sweetie and I took a much-needed break and spent six days in Hawai'i: first time for him and first time since 1974 for me! Beautiful scenery and colors, real paypaya! I Am feeling refreshed and look forward to open-mic-ing about Seattle for the rest ofmthe winter. Spring will kick off the Deb-Head season with a show at Tacos Guaymas in April! See you then if not before! - Deb

1/24/13: What's Up

So, what's up in Deb's World? No live music shows for now as I am caring for an elderly parent. Such is life: our parents take care of us when we are young; we take care of them when they are old. So please forgive the lack of dizzying, spell-binding, dazzling Deb Seymour Music News for a bit while I deal with family matters. Why? Because family *matters*...and I love my parents...very much! <3

11/27/2012: Get Ready For Girls' Night Out!

Mark your calendars for Saturday, December 8th: it's "Girls' Night Out" at Seattle's Couth Buzzard Books!

I am honored to have the lovely and talented Shannon Beck,Dana Pierce, and Laura Lagerstedtall joining me in an all-women songwriter showcase in Seattle's hopping Greenwood neighborhood.

This show will be a nod to both present and past for me: in 1992 and 1993 I created and produced an all-women songwriter showcase back in Boulder, CO called "Gals With Guitars" that was so successful, it kept running annually for five years after I left Colorado!

I am excited, all these years (heck, decades!) later to be once again inviting some of my local favorite female singer songwriter's to strut their stuff in the "in the round" style, but this time "local" meaning Seattle and the "girls"- well, all lovely WOMEN! (Not that the Boulder group weren't women too- we were just a bit younger then)
We will be singing our own songs solo and also accompanying each other on some songs.

Get ready to "rock" out with us: a little bit country, a little bit silly, a little bit bluesy and definitely not to be missed!

10/27/12: How To Be The Official "Spooks-Person"

"It was a dark and stormy night...the ship was out at sea...
The capitan said "Deb! Tell us a story!"
And so Deb began..."

Thank you, whole-heartedly, to those brave, those daring (those VERY WET)
Deb-Heads who make the soggy journey to West Seattle's C&P Coffee Co. on Oct. 27th!
(I practically drowned on the way over from Ballard myself...)

Though the audience was small, your energy was awesome. It was great for me to
be able to stretch out and try some new material: "Mysterious Mose", " Yellow Moon",
and Matt Price's "Ghost".

Plus, I got to wear this very sexy witch hat.... -------> -----------> ------------>

Congrats to Tamara and Katie for winning the "Best Deb-Heads In Costume" award:
an Elijah Tucker CD!

(Katie and Tamara already have all three Deb Seymour CDs!)

Elijah is a young man that I met for the first time on Tuesday October 23 at teh Victory Music Open Mic.
Stellar singer-songwriter on tour from the East Coast. I bought several of his CDs.

Knowing that Katie and Tamara already have all three Deb Seymour CDs, I decided to give them one of Elijahs.
So there.

BOO!

9/27/12: Thank you, Boulder!

Thank you, Boulder, for the most AWESOME show I could have imagined! You are where I got my start, you are where I can come back to for nourishment. You are always the bit of mountain flavor I carry when I return to my Northwest home-the spice in my coffee!

READ CONCERT REVIEW HERE!

WATCH VIDEO HERE!

So many thanks to all who made the 9-22-12 Unitarian Universalist show possible:

Peter Stokes, Marty Humphreys, Ed Contreras, Paul Niemiec, Julie Host, Partick Tracy, Sam Fuqua & KGNU 88.5 Community Radio, Judith King & UUC Boulder, Linda Flinkman, Hana Flinkman, Ann, David and Langly Rick, Cindy Lusk and especially my long-suffering boyfriend, the love of my life, Mr. Jason Wood!

I am overcome with emotion. It's not often you can return to the town where you played your first awful chords at an open mic long past, making a fool of youself (more than once!) and come back twenty years later to such happy ears, smiling faces and warm hearts.

Thank you. You ROCK!

"Pretty is as pretty does... does pretty work? YES, SHE DOES!"

May 2012

First A Word of Thanks:

First of all, I am over my *bug* that kept me from performing w/ Brian Booth and Mike Buchman last weekend at Tacos Guaymas in Lynnwood, WA. Many special thanks to Seattle songwriter Bill Davie for taking my slot at the last minute "It was a great show and we had fun," said Brian Booth's backup singer (and Deb-Head, too!) Laurin Gaudiner, "but you were missed!" (Thank you Laurin! I missed you giys too!)

"Folk With No Rules" Rules!

I will be back in action on Saturday, May 19th at the Couth Buzzard in Seattle, WA with Greg Spence Wolf, Michael Shedric Simpson and Ryan Rossner in ther "Folk With No Rules" show! (Thank you Greg! I've never considered my self to be a folk musican. Seems to me I play everything but folk! Except for the bug song. Yeah.)

Get Out And Enjoy Nature!

Or at least, plant some flowers in your garden!
(And tomatoes. And peas. And strawberries. And
lettuce. And spinach... no starving here for this musician!)

Happy Springing Everyone! -Deb

2/5/12: The Great Digitizing Project

Well, I have *finally* started and have begun the long, arduous project of digitizing my *entire* collection of cassette tapes! While tapes some are commercial, most are recordings of...well,. um…uh...me. This task, which I have long been dreading due to the shear size of material i have is turning out to be delightful! There have been treasures upon treasure discovered amongst the dross and I find I am really enjoying sorting out and (finally!) properly labeling things. Some of these cassettes go back to the intrepid age of twelve (!) years old when I made little recordings of myself singing! (Like I said, you got to train 'em early...)

The main goal of this project really is just to simplify and downsize all the junk in my home studio (I'm a Virgo, 'K?). I'd rather not be posting everything on the Internet (trust me!) HOWEVER... as I have discovered enough gems in the treasure box that are pretty darn good..well, I might just post some fun stuff on my Band Camp site at some point... so stay tuned! (Yes: that means YOU, Debonairs Devotees and Seventh String Celtic Trio Buffs! And let's not forget Small Talk and Twins Before Birth!

11/24/11: Giving Thanks

I have *much* to be thankful for in 2011, but I confess: I've yet to write a song of giving thanks.
But maybe I'll start with some ideas right here:

I'm thankful for my health, my brains, my music, my still-going strong 21 year old Gibson guitar, all the folks who helped me make the "Mama Wears A Hard Hat" CD a reality, the Green Bean Coffee House, The Couth Buzzard, my contiuing ability to memorize things, all the new people I've met this year, my steady beau of five 1/2 years, Jason,my 16-year old calico cat, Miss Sweet Pea, my mom(!), Charlotte Thistle and her wonderful music, all the Green Bean and Couth Buzard Open Mic-ers, my right hand, my left hand, muy house, my garden, my new garden shed, Zoe ZENN Car (my electric car). Lady Blue, my Honda Insight, all the readers and contributers to Deb Goes Green, my eco blog, all my Deb Web Works clients (yep! Day job! And a good one!), all the interesting people who live in my mom's senior living community, Southwest Airlines for getting me safely to and fro, my neighbors, espcially K. who pinch hit cat sits when both Jason and I are out of town, Dick Van Dyke and Battlestar Galactica re-run, NetFlix, my aunts, uncles and many cousins, for kind words and loving energy the past three years, my roof, my teeth, my eyes, my heart, the sky, the rain, the sun, alternative energy and intelligent discourse.

What are you thankful for? Email me and let me know!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

10/14/11: Performing!

The Urban Folkerista returns!

I'm back in the saddle and performing live once again and it feels great. The decision to take time off from live performance was not made lightly, nor, as it turned out, unnecessarily. In late 2008, it became apparent that my then-82 year old father was going down hill fast, and that my 76 year old mother, who had (and still has) Parkinson’s disease was not going to be able to cope. As it turned out, I was correct in my assumption-the specific assumption being that I would be flying and forth to California a lot- was correct. However, what I could not have anticipated was that what was supposed to be a 6 months break would turn into three years.

I can't say I regret the time off, as harried and emotionally fraught as it was. I got to get much closer to both my parents. I got to think about what is really important and what is not so important to me. I was able to help my Dad throughout his last illness and passing and got a crash course in all the legal responsibilities that happen following a person’s demise. I found that I quickly picked up new financial and legal savvy. I also learned that I am much more organized than I thought when it comes to... well, I was going to say dis-mantling a house of 47 years (my parent's home) and getting a senior moved into assisted living (mom) , but it is more than that- I discovered that I am pretty darned good at organizing nearly everything!

Life gives fuel to music. Music gives fuel to life. I only hope that I can live a life of few regrets-which, I am glad to say, is pretty much the case with me, so far!
It's all over in the blink of an eye- so I say do what makes you happy and fulfilled. In my case, while that is doing music, it is not doing music exclusively: my interest and passing for electric vehicles and sustainable living, plus my computer geekiness and community interaction is equally important.

So don’t only look for me at shows. Look for me at any area Seattle Electric Vehicle Association meetings and events. Look for me in my garden. Look for me volunteering around the community. Look for me peacefully choosing not to gig on a Saturday night and stay home with my cat and boyfriend and/or a good book. Then look to see if I write about it in a song!
